Have Your Say Event

Have Your Say Event, Thursday, 25th October

Manchester City Council's  "Have Your Say" event for Chorlton Park and Merseybank estate residents took place on Thursday

Men in Sheds attended this event at the Barlow Moor Community Association Centre across the road and had a stall. I gave a talk to the assembled people, which incluided the leader of the council , Richard Leese and the deputy chief executive Sara Todd. A short video of my talk can be viewed here

Unfortunately we also found out on the day that the Community Garden at the back of Mersyebank Parade had been vandalised as had the Den Cafe next to us. They also got in to our yard and damaged the fence but that seemed to be all

The new bike shed wasn't damaged

Fixing the Mud Kitchen

Fixing the Mud Kitchen

Bob & Chris were beginning to rebuild
the toddlers mud kitchen across the road
at Barlow Moor Community Centre

The new slatted wood pieces had been
built from recycled pallet wood to replace
the wood that had rotted

Some adjustments still have to be made
but this job will soom be finished

Meanwhile in the  front of shop, Terry was
talking to Eddie, who was visiting the shed
for a chat and cup of tea

Also there was Mary who will be coming along
to our DIY furniture repair workshop
on Saturday

Further down the parade of shops, the new Charity shop opened its doors
this morning. Two of the local councillors, Dave Rawson and Joanne Midgely popped into to see us and how we are getting on

The Bike Shed nears completion

The concrete base was laid last week and now if fully hardened and the wooden form  has now been removed. It's looking good!

beginning the base of the shed
gradually building it up
Here come the walls (rather flimsy metal)
doing the base and sides of the shed is much more straightforward than assembling the roof (done a couple of weeks ago)

Ready to  put on the roof

get ready to lift

Trying it out for comfort

The day the concrete arrived

Making the Concrete base for the Bike Shed

We are assembling a large metal shed for our Bike Project. We realised we would need a level concrete base. After advice from John, we constructed a frame which was level and then ordered some Barrow Mix concrete, which was delivered yesterday. Fortunately, Chris, and experienced joiner was there to direct proceedings. He nailed the hardboard lining which had been made the previous week which would prevent the liquid concrete from spilling out

This is a video of the arrival of the concrete, it being barrowed in to the yard and dumped into the frame. After much shovelling  and then tamping and scraping of the concrete to make it level, the job was done. Next week we will get back to assembling the shed to put on the concrete base
